Sooo…. I’ve just turned 31, I feel a lot older though. In December I spend a lot of time thinking about the year and things I’ve learnt. It crossed my mind that having lived 31 years on this earth, it stands to reason that there are loads of things that I’ve literally done 31 times over.

So why does life still surprise me? Especially financially.

I decided to make some changes that reflect on some of the things I’ve learnt (mostly tech related). Here is what I tried:

So Google has just opened up people cards for use in South Africa. This is a really cool way to get found on google — but also to own your search presence. And it’s pretty quick to set up!

If you want the TLDR scroll down a bit more for the setup steps, otherwise grab some popcorn.

Google sometimes trials new offerings in specific regions before rolling them out worldwide (good practice) — they learn about the service and optimise it, then release when ready. The initial launch was in India and has now been rolled out to South Africa.

A people card is essentially a nice way to consolidate all your info that may be spread across multiple sites and social media platforms into one nice summary that shows up when someone searches for your name. …

It’s been a long few months, I’m sure you probably feel the same way. For some reason I find that I always feel this way around this time of year. I’m not sure what your “go-to” solution is, I tried:

  • Stand up comedy
  • Binge watching Rick and Morty
  • Finally fitting smart lights at the house
  • Slow cooking a beef soup

Aaaaand that was my Friday.

Seeing as that failed, I decided to do something creative — without a brief, without a deadline and without payment. I finally built my personal website! (Check it out if you have time).

Finally… My Website

Hi, my name is Kofi — and I have been procrastinating building my personal website for ages. I have wanted to write stuff for a while as well, my thoughts, my learnings, my portfolio… just a catalougue of things I find cool.

As a weekend project I finally decided to just get it done! So here it is.

Some cool tools I used in the process of creating the site — you’ll wanna check these out:

  • Calendly (for bookings)
  • Adobe Xd (I use this for so much more than experience design nowadays)
  • Webflow
  • Screenspace
  • Envato Elements
  • Storychief
  • Unsplash
  • Netflix (Everybody needs a break…

Ok so right from the start let me just say that this is NOT happening. However… by reading the article you did prove my point though — That you have at least some interest in consuming content like Game of Thrones via a medium like YouTube.

So if you stop reading right now, at least complete the poll below. Otherwise the real title for this post should be something more like: It’s Time for your favourite streamed TV shows to find a new home > Read on and see what I mean.

Imagine for a second clicking a link and youtube opens up — 10 Million people are waiting with you for the season finale of Game of Thrones. People are already in the live chat speculating about what is going to happen next. Who else is in the chatroom — your favourite character (yes they are still alive — for now). …

First thing first (and you probably know this already) you shouldn’t be skipping your medication. There’s lots of evidence to support this but basically your medication lasts a few hours in your body, before your body gets rid of it. In fact your body is supposed to get rid of it once your pill has done its job.
So every time you take a pill you can think of it as a top up. …

So I saw 88 patients last week, If i was to estimate I’d say at least 30% of them had high blood pressure. There was a particular gentleman who came in complaining of a headache he couldn’t shake and when I examined him his blood pressure was 180/109 — which is incredibly high.

I am Kofi Okyere-Dede (Dr Kofi) and here are a few things I’ve learnt as a doctor seeing different people dealing with hypertension.

We say we do, it looks great on all the adverts with the happy people smiling and jogging… but when it comes down to actually doing it, very few people really want to exercise. …

Have a look at the existing design with fresh, modern eyes. Add an African spin to the current brand image. Bring out the fascinating story behind the restaurant.

We love branding that includes African elements. We took inspiration from African fabrics and created a new brand image.
